Michter's has been known for its rye whiskey since its foundation, which is why it attaches great importance to its production. US*1 Kentucky Straight Rye is labeled single barrel - individual barrels are bottled without mixing. The whiskey matures in new, internally fired American white oak barrels. They bottle it at a strength of 42.4 %.
It is characterized by spicy notes along with notes of citrus, caramel and oak.
The beginning of the history of Michter's goes back to 1753, when it was founded by John Shenk in Schaefferstown, in the American state of Pennsylvania. Whiskey was produced here under the names of Shenk's, later Bomberger's and finally Michter's - initially from rye, commonly grown in this area. According to historical records, the whiskey had such a good reputation that after the outbreak of the Civil War, General George Washington visited the distillery and bought it to stock up to fortify his men during the harsh winter at Valley Forge.
