This edition features rum from the Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos (AFD) distillery in the Dominican Republic. It belongs to the portfolio of the largest rum producer in the country, Barceló.

The modern distillery was built in 2010. The Barceló company is based on an ecological approach to production, so they designed it with the intention of having as little impact on the environment as possible. Thanks to the recycling of bagasse from sugar cane and the use of solar panels, they can produce up to 96 % themselves from the amount of electricity they use to operate it.

Rum here is made from syrup made from sugar cane juice. They distill it in a multi-column device. It is aged mainly in American oak barrels, in which Tennessee Whiskey was previously stored.

This vintage edition was distilled in 2011. It was aged for 10 years in American whiskey casks and bottled at cask strength 61.1 %.

Welcome to Venezuela, a country officially called the "Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela". The name is a Spanish diminutive of the name Venezia (Venice). You probably know the country thanks to its beautiful sandy beaches or huge national parks with diverse fauna and flora. You must have heard of the peakless mountain range (Roraima) or the ancient Lake Maracaibo (age between 20 and 36 million years). It lies in the area rich in lightning strikes in the world - during the catatumbo phenomenon, lightning strikes up to 28 times per minute). There is also one unique natural formation here, known as Kerepakupai Merú (waterfall of the deepest place) in the language of the Pemon tribe of South American Indians. It is the highest waterfall in the world - Salto Ángel (Angel's Leap). It was named after the American aviator and adventurer James Crawford Angel, who discovered it in 1933. Salto Ángel is located on the Gauya River, has a height of 979 meters and its water, after an uninterrupted free fall of 807 meters, flows into the rivers Churun, Carrao and the Caroní River, which is one of the great tributaries of the Orinoco. The water falls from Devil's Mountain (Auyán-Tepuí), which with its peak area of 666.9 km² is one of the largest mountain ranges in the world.

Salto Ángel waterfall became the ambassador of our first rum from the mountainous part of northern Venezuela. At the end of the 18th century, they established a farm here, where they cultivated coffee, cocoa and sugar cane. They started producing rum in the 1830s and it holds the title of the oldest rum in Venezuela. Currently, this independent family company is managed by the fifth generation. It constantly monitors the observance of traditional practices and proudly places the label "Ron de Venezuela" on all its products.

The company controls all processes of rum production (from harvesting sugar cane to bottling). Molasses is fermented with yeast of the genus Saccharomyces cerevisiae and mainly multi-column devices are used for distillation. They produce a wide variety of spirits, from light to heavy. They mostly use ex-bourbon barrels from American white oak for aging, but you can also find French oak barrels in which other noble distillates were previously matured. Before filling into barrels, the distillate is diluted to a strength of 70 % ABV.

Shark Venezuela 2009 was distilled and aged in Venezuela under the banner of Distribuidora Sofa. In the past, he won numerous awards at international competitions and is still regularly placed in the top ranks.

Let its unique and layered character stand out in your glass, which cannot be achieved otherwise than devoting hard work, first-class care and a sea of time to rum.

ABOUT NZÁČKA

Rum Shark

Rum Shark is uncompromisingly committed to spreading awareness about rum, openness, correctness, authenticity in the production, bottling and presentation of rum products.

From the very beginning, the most important principle for us, with the team of tasters, is to "hunt" and bottle only the best rums from the Caribbean. Because this "hunting" has become our mission, we have chosen one of the world's most feared hunters as our emblem. We are proud to present bottles from a new Czech bottler that proudly bears the name "Rum Shark".
